John Kolenda (Chairman)

John is Chairman of Aura Group.

John also serves as the Managing Director of national mortgage broker network 1300HomeLoan and retail finance brokerage Finsure – Australia’s first integrated mortgage and financial planning businesses.

John launched 1300HomeLoan in 2010 and Australia’s first mortgage broker-owned home loan brand has recruited the cream of the industry and revolutionised the financial services sector by linking more than 300 brokers using the 1300 Brand. He also founded Finsure – which is one of the fastest growing Australian retail finance brokerages.

John has more than 25 years of sales, management and marketing experience across a diverse group of companies ranging from start-up businesses to large corporations employing thousands of people. He also sits on a numerous boards, including an ASX-listed entity, across manufacturing, finance, technology, financial planning and corporate advisory companies.

John was Executive Director of Loan Market Group, Australia’s leading independent mortgage broking businesses comprising X Inc Finance, Loan Market and Home Loans. John jointly founded X Inc in 2004 with Jennifer Nielsen and Dean Rushton and the business was the fastest growing broking aggregator between 2005 and 2007.

In late 2007, X Inc completed a $14 billion merger with the mortgage broking operations of real estate giant Ray White to form Loan Market Group and become the largest independent branded aggregation business in Australia. As Executive Director of Loan Market, John oversaw the group boost monthly loans written to in excess of $600 million and its broker network grow over the 600.

At Aussie he was on the executive committee and General Manager Sales & Distribution. He ran many different parts of the Aussie organization for John Symond with over 700 Mortgage Advisors. He has a proven track record of driving sales performance and results and has led and inspired high performance teams across multiple markets.

Calvin Ng (Managing Director)

Calvin is a Managing Director and Principal of Aura Group.

Prior to establishing Aura Group, Calvin had worked at Everest Babcock & Brown (EBB), one of Australia’s largest absolute return investment managers. At EBB Calvin was part of the Direct Investment Team focusing on high yield debt, listed equities and private equity investments. In this role he gained exposure to a wide range of industries, geographies and asset classes through the provision and investment of over AUD$1b in public and private market transactions.

Calvin advises a range of Australian corporates within the finance, insurance, food & beverage, resources and technology sector. Calvin’s previous roles were in commercial / residential / mezzanine lending at a boutique financial advisory house in Sydney and in a legal role focusing on mergers and acquisitions in the Australian pubs and clubs sector.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (with Distinction) and Bachelor of Laws (with Merit) from the University of New South Wales. Calvin spent 6 months in an exchange program at the Graduate School of Law at the University of Texas Austin focusing on banking and financial services law. Calvin has also completed the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and has been admitted to practice as a Lawyer in the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

Eric Chan (Managing Director)

Eric is a Managing Director and Principal of Aura Group.

Prior to establishing Aura Group, Eric practiced as a solicitor at top-tier law Australia law firm, Clayton Utz,. At Clayton Utz, Eric focused on the area of debt finance including syndicated loan facilities, project financing and acquisition financing, and had been exposed to deals of in excess of AUD$1 billion.

Eric has a broad range of experience within the areas of corporate, private equity and banking and finance law. He has been involved in many high profile transactions, including a $340 million takeover of a wine club business, a $575 million acquisition of a leading Australian services provider to the mining, oil & gas and infrastructure sectors, a $2.7 billion recapitalisation of a leading Australian energy infrastructure company and a $550 million construction finance facility for a 45 storey property construction. Eric is a solicitor admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, the High Court of Australia and a member of the Law Society of NSW.

Eric is a graduate of the University of Technology Sydney and holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Laws.

He also holds a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking) and a MFAA Anti Money Laundering/Counter Terrorism Finance Act Accreditation.

Colin Mullins (CFO/Managing Director)

As CFO and Managing Director, Colin has been pivotal in driving the growth strategy of Aura Group by leveraging his vast experience in Financial Services and Asset Management. In addition, Colin provides CFO support to the group’s portfolio of investee companies.

Prior to joining Aura Group in 2015, Colin held a number of senior positions at Credit Suisse including CFO and Chief of Staff, Asset Management Emerging Markets and Asia Pacific. Before Credit Suisse, Colin was the Group Management Accountant and Financial Controller of Asprey Group, a luxury retail brand in London.

Colin served on a number of boards while at Credit Suisse including Credit Suisse (Hong Kong) Limited, EMCO GP Limited and Credit Suisse Property Investment Nominees Limited.

Colin is a Fellow of Chartered Certified Accountants. He also completed the CFO Program at IMD Business School (Switzerland).

Trent Donnelly (Managing Director/Head of Corporate Finance)

Trent is responsible for the groups global Corporate Advisory activities, with circa 15 years in senior ECM and M&A roles focussed on Australian small cap and mid market companies.

Prior to joining Aura, Trent was Co-Head of Corporate Finance with Baillieu Holst and Head of Corporate Finance for Ord Minnett – both leading Australian mid-market financial services firms.

Trent has also been actively involved as a board member and senior executive across all aspects of equities businesses including; institutional equities, research, funds management and retail wealth management.

Trent holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney, Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.


Charles Wong (Director, Head of Asia)

Charles Wong is a Director, and the Head of Asia for the Aura Group.

Charles has a background across both direct investments, and management consulting. Prior to joining Aura, Charles founded a technology focused venture capital fund (Capital Associates Limited) – focused on supporting its portfolio companies access scalable first-to-market applications, for proprietary, established technologies. Within this mandate, Charles led syndicated investments into three portfolio companies, and supported their expansion across several South East Asian markets.

Prior to founding Capital Associates, Charles was a management consultant with Booz & Company (formerly Booz Allen Hamilton). Charles began his career based in Sydney, and later moved to Shanghai and Hong Kong following his return from Harvard Business School. At Booz, Charles focused predominantly on advising large scale mergers and acquisitions, as well as generating corporate turnaround and growth strategies across a range of industries.

To date, Charles has worked in over fifteen countries across three continents. Charles holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with First Class Honours, and was the recipient of the University Medal. Charles also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, and graduated as a George F. Baker Scholar (top 5% of class).

Tong Hoe Sng (Head of Aura Wealth Management)

Tong Hoe is Head of Aura Wealth Management.

Tong Hoe joins Aura with over 20 years of prior experience in wealth management with Chase Manhattan Bank Private Bank, Merrill Lynch, UBS and BNP Paribas Private Bank.

Tong Hoe Sng has developed extensive experience working with regional clients in Optimising Asset Allocation by applying diverse and appropriate Trading Strategies to Balance Risks and Returns on Investments.

Besides investment products, Tong Hoe is well versed in Estate Planning and Investment Holding Company Structuring as tools for Managing and Preserving Wealth.

Schwin Chiaravanont (Executive Director)

Schwin is an Executive Director of Aura Group.

Schwin is also Managing Director of 2W Group, a family-owned investment firm. Leveraging his network throughout Asia-Pacific and investment experience in early stage ventures and distressed assets, Schwin is responsible for strengthening Aura Group’s presence in Asia.

He has completed a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an emphases in Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurship at the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
